Programme Outline

This programme covers the following topics in depth and learners are expected to complete additional self directed learning, research work and teaching practice:

  • Unit 1: Theory of training and adult learning
  • Unit 2: The role of the trainer
  • Unit 3: Training needs analysis and programme design
  • Unit 4: Preparing for training delivery
  • Unit 5: Delivery and assessment
  • Unit 6: Evaluation of training
Who should participate in this course?

This course is specifically designed for tutors who wish to enhance their skills in the delivery of adult education and achieve an internationally recognised qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications and to be eligible to apply for the important FAS National Register of Trainers (NRT).

Learners should be actively involved in the delivery of an Adult Education Programme and be in a position to practice in the classroom the skills and techniques, covered in this programme.

General Aims

This programme is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and attitude to facilitate adult learners.

Entry Requirements

All learners must be fluent English speakers.

Learners should capable of undertaking self directed learning.

Learners must have the subject matter expertise for the adult education programme they propose to teach.

Work Experience

The College recommends learners carry out at least 25 hours work experience.

In addition as part of the programme learners will be expected to observe a trainer in the classroom for a minimum of 25 hours or be actively involved in the delivery of a training programmme.

Work experience may be undertaken in a paid or voluntary capacity.

Assessment Method

Assignment 50% and Skills demonstration 50%

35 Classroom Contact hours  
5 Days over 5 weeks or 10 evenings over a period of 3 months

(No classes in July or August)

25 Classroom observation Hours

Approx 60 Hours self directed learning
