Who should participate in this course?

This course is suitable for anyone working with Children or Children with Special Needs. It would be particularly useful for Learners who have completed our Special Needs Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma.

It is also intended for newely recruited volunteer tutors who will be assisting students in a group or working on a one to one basis. It will also introduce canditates to the more common learning difficulties and disabilities.


General Aims

This module is designed to provide learners with an understanding of language evolution, structure and developemnt, and how to use this knowledge to better support and assist a child develop their literacy skills either on a one to one or in a group setting..


Entry Requirements

Minimum age is 17 years

All learners must be fluent English speakers


Work Experience

There is no work experience requirement for this module


Assessment Method

Continous assessment method based on the following:

  • Portfolio
  • Skills Demonstration

Duration

6 months and two saturdays  (see timetable for details)
