The College of Progressive Education founded in 1986 and The Montessori Education Centre founded in 1985 are delighted to announce they have combined their unparalleled years of expertise to offer you one of the best Montessori (3-6) training courses available. Between the Colleges there is 45 years of combined experience in delivering childcare and Montessori training. In addition the Montessori Education Centre owns and manages a Montessori school for children in the age group (0-6 years) and one of the few Montessori primary schools (6-12 years) in the country. This invaluable experience has been incorporated into the course materials.
The course is suitable for learners who wish to take up a role teaching children, in the age range 3-6 years, through the Montessori Method of Education. It will run from the end of September to the end June each year in five locations throughout the country, Cork, Dundalk, Longford, Tralee and Waterford. The College of Progressive Education will also offer the course in Dublin. Course details
The philosophy of the Colleges Montessori courses has been largely based on the educational theory of Maria Montessori who developed a method of education, now internationally known as the Montessori Method which facilitates the development of each child’s potential through the provision of structured tasks in a carefully organised and orderly environment. Maria Montessori outlined an approach to the child based on a philosophy of education which envisaged the teacher as a guide or director of learning, the child as ‘an absorbent mind’ and the environment as a crucial influence on the learning experience. She developed a vast array of educational materials for the younger child and outlined a clear strategy with additional materials for working with older children. The Montessori influence on education has gained worldwide recognition and continues to expand and develop in Ireland.
During the course you will prepare teaching manuals which will prove invaluable for your future career. These manuals will also form the basis of your results. Aditionally you will need to achieve 40 hours work experience in a Montessori setting.

The Montessori Education Centre also offers distance learning courses which are divided into three one year units: birth to six years, six to nine years and nine to twelve years. Students can progress through each level or can stop after the first year. All courses have a field placement element and the Centre’s own primary school is invaluable in this respect.
