The College has published a book called "Healthcare Support A textbook for Healthcare Assistants". This is available from our office: phone 01 4884300 or via Gill and McMillian the publishers at a cost of €25.00. All our full-time learners receive a copy of this book with their programme materials.

Welcome to the College of Progressive Education Healthcare section

The College provides quality accredited FETAC training for organisations delivering care to the older person. The courses range from FETAC Level 4, 5 and 6 with the majority of courses at FETAC Level 5. For information on the National framework of qualifications click here. For further information on the FETAC awards system click here. The FETAC Level 5 Healthcare Support certificate DHSXX is the recommended training under The National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland

The College also has a qualified Moving and Handling trainer available. This training is provided as part of the Healthcare Support DHSXX FETAC Level 5 major award however the College can also provide this programme by arrangement with individuals or as on site training. CPR training can also be arranged through one of our partner organisations.

A number of courses attract FAS CDP funding of 70/75% making them very affordable for employers and learners in the Healthcare sector.

The College offers the training in a flexible manner to suit both the needs of the Learner and the employer. Courses can be delivered in a variety of ways some of which are:

  • Part-time mornings
  • Part-time evenings
  • Saturdays
  • Day Release - one day per week
  • Block release
  • Traditional Distance Learning
  • Online learning

The FETAC Accredited training can be delivered as individual modules or component certificates or as a major award normally 8 modules. The Healthcare Support FETAC Level 5 Major Award includes:

  • Care Skills
  • Care Support
  • Safety and Health at Work
  • Communications
  • Work Experience
  • Care of the Older Person
  • Introduction to Nursing
  • Care of People with Mental Illness

The above modules can also be delivered as individual modules. In addition the College can offer the following individual modules:

  • Intellectual Disability Studies

  • Human Growth and Development
  • Rehabilitation support
  • Care Provision and Practice
